Judicial rulings impact university administration and electoral eligibility in Peru and Ecuador

In Peru, the 2nd Transitional Constitutional Court of Lima has moved a legal challenge involving the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) toward a final ruling. The court dismissed exceptions raised by the university administration, led by Rector Jerí Ramón, and bypassed a previously scheduled hearing to expedite a decision. The case involves a constitutional injunction (amparo) filed by professor Luis Hernando Gálvez Calle, who seeks to contest his exclusion from the University Electoral Committee (CEU).

Gálvez Calle argues that his removal violates fundamental constitutional rights, including the right to work and due process. A ruling in his favor could potentially invalidate administrative restructuring efforts conducted under the current university management.

In Ecuador, the Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE) has issued a final ruling disqualifying lawyer Ramiro García Falconí from running for the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS). The TCE upheld a previous decision by the National Electoral Council (CNE), confirming that García Falconí is legally ineligible for the position due to his former role as dean at the Universidad Central del Ecuador.
