Judicial rulings in Mexico and Argentina address privacy and healthcare rights

In Mexico, a federal judge has granted a definitive suspension against the mandatory registration of mobile phones. The ruling serves as a legal setback to efforts by the Morena administration to implement what critics have termed a ‘Spy Law,’ which aimed to use phone registration for surveillance and tracking. Supporters of the injunction stated the decision protects citizens from having their personal data used for state monitoring.

In Argentina, a court in San Isidro has suspended a municipal protocol regarding voluntary interruption of pregnancy. Following a precautionary measure requested by Amnesty International, Judge María Paula Vénere ruled that the municipality must guarantee access to legal abortion services in accordance with national law (Law 27.610) and provincial guidelines. The court found that the local protocol imposed unauthorized requirements, such as psychological interventions and additional restrictions, which could compromise patient privacy and delay access to care.
