Judicial rulings issue long prison sentences for robbery and bank embezzlement

In Peru, two individuals, Arturo Alvarado M. and César Zapata P., have been sentenced to 27 years in prison for aggravated robbery. The crimes involved two separate attacks on Mass retail stores in Piura, occurring just 16 minutes apart on December 19, 2025. During the first robbery in the Veintiséis de Octubre district, the suspects threatened a cashier to steal an electronic device and a mobile phone. They then proceeded to a second location on Grau Avenue, where they used hoods to conceal their faces and intimidated staff to steal money and various products.

In Bolivia, former Banco Unión operations chief Juan Pari Mamani has been sentenced to 22 years and six months in prison for the embezzlement of 37.6 million bolivianos. The fraud, which occurred between 2016 and 2017, involved unauthorized system access to simulate transfers to a non-existent ATM. Pari allegedly attempted to launder the stolen funds through the purchase of luxury vehicles and real estate. While five people were convicted in the case, twelve others were acquitted. Pari will serve his sentence at the Chonchocoro penitentiary.
