Judit Polgár declines request to become Hungarian President

Chess legend Judit Polgár has revealed that Prime Minister Péter Magyar formally requested her to take on the role of President of Hungary. The request followed the signing of the 17th Constitutional Amendment by Tamás Sulyok.

Polgár described the encounter as unexpected, noting that she and the Prime Minister met at an event where they played a full game of chess. She stated that while her name has circulated online as a potential candidate for the past decade, this was the closest the possibility had ever come to reality.

After considering the potential outcomes, Polgár declined the offer. She explained that she felt she was not the most suitable person to bring calm to the country given its current deep political divisions. She intends to continue her work in education and gaming to promote Hungary's international reputation.
