Judo Grand Prix Lima 2026 begins in Peru

The Judo Grand Prix Lima 2026 has commenced at the VIDENA sports complex in San Luis, Peru. The tournament features approximately 350 judokas representing 60 different countries, all competing to earn ranking points for qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

In early preliminary bouts, Peruvian judoka Franco Baltazar secured a notable victory in the -66kg category, defeating Brazilian athlete William Lima, a silver medalist from the Paris 2024 Olympics, via ippon. Other early successes for the Peruvian delegation included Brillith Gamarra and Driulys Rivas in the -52kg category.

The event is organized by the Peruvian Judo Sports Federation. The competition schedule spans multiple weight classes for both men and women through Sunday, August 16.
