Jufed denounces pressure on Mexican judges following judicial reform

The National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Federal Judiciary (Jufed) has denounced new measures that it claims exert pressure on career judges in Mexico. The organization highlighted two primary areas of concern: a series of reassignment changes and the reopening of disciplinary proceedings against judges and magistrates who issued rulings related to the recent judicial reform.

Jufed reported that at least 20 disciplinary proceedings have been reactivated. Association director Julia García González stated that these involve officials who granted suspensions or injunctions linked to the reform. The association argues that these actions were previously considered protected jurisdictional criteria under the principle of judicial independence.

Additionally, the association reported simultaneous reassignment changes affecting 43 individuals, including six magistrates, 27 judges, and 10 secretaries across 18 entities. One specific case mentioned is retired judge Martha Eugenia Magaña López, who stepped down following disagreements with the new judicial selection model.
