Gege Akutami, the creator of the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen, has revealed the previously unknown Cursed Technique of the character Yu Haibara. The revelation comes as part of the announcement that Haibara will become a playable character in the mobile game ‘Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade’, scheduled to join the roster on August 31, 2026.
Haibara’s ability, known as the ‘Steam Cursed Technique’, functions by using cursed energy as water and boiling it within his body to create steam. This process significantly enhances his physical capabilities and combat performance, marking him as a front-line fighter who relies on physical strikes. However, the technique has low fuel efficiency, causing Haibara to experience frequent hunger.
This new information provides narrative depth to the series, explaining the combat similarities between Haibara and the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, which had previously been noted by the character Kento Nanami. The announcement has generated significant discussion among fans regarding how this technique might recontextualize Haibara’s death in the original story.
