Jujuy authorities investigate illegal ophthalmology services in Calilegua
Authorities in Jujuy, Argentina, are investigating a potential case of illegal medical practice following reports of unauthorized ophthalmological services in Calilegua. The intervention was launched by the Ministry of Health of Jujuy, the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPA), the Jujuy Medical Council, and other professional entities after receiving citizen complaints.
During the operation, officials caught three individuals in flagrante delicto claiming to be health professionals. They were providing services to residents of Calilegua and Libertador General San Martín in an establishment that lacked any sanitary authorization. The group had been promoting their services through social media and charging patients in cash for consultations.
As part of the legal and administrative proceedings, authorities seized ophthalmological instruments and equipment used during the unauthorized sessions. Ricardo Ruiz, the Director General of Audit and Control for the Ministry of Health, stated that the criminal investigation is ongoing and emphasized the public health risks posed by such activities.
