Jujuy authorities launch sanitary alert after caprine brucellosis cases

The government of Jujuy has launched a prevention and control operation following the detection of two human cases of caprine brucellosis this year. Authorities believe the infections are linked to the consumption of irregular, artisanal goat cheeses made from foreign milk that entered the country without proper sanitary certifications or traceability.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease transmissible from animals to humans, primarily through the consumption of raw milk and unpasteurized dairy products. Officials clarified that the disease is not transmitted through meat consumption.

A multi-agency task force including the Ministry of Security, the National Gendarmerie, and SENASA will intensify inspections at provincial borders and commercial points such as fairs and shops. These inspections will focus on verifying product origin, sanitary records, and documentation. Health officials advise the public to purchase dairy products from verified sources and to boil milk for five minutes to ensure safety.
