Jujuy inaugurates new Council of the Magistracy
The province of Jujuy has officially inaugurated its Council of the Magistracy, a permanent body with functional autonomy and financial self-sufficiency. During a ceremony held at the Salón Vélez Sarsfield, thirty-four members were sworn into their positions, marking a significant step in the implementation of the 2023 constitutional reform.
Mariano Miranda was sworn in as the president of the Council. The body is composed of eleven primary members representing the Supreme Court of Justice, lower judges, the Legislature, the Executive, and the legal profession. Members will serve four-year terms.
The Council is tasked with selecting lower judges, prosecutors, and defenders through public competitions. It also holds disciplinary and accusatory powers before the Jury of Impeachment. Governor Carlos Sadir noted that the new institution aims to reduce discretion in judicial appointments and increase transparency by allowing the community to review candidate shortlists.
