Latin American nations implement AI-focused policies
Various Latin American regions are implementing policies and programs to address the rise of artificial intelligence in education, labor, and law.
In Chile, lawmakers have proposed massive AI training to combat unemployment and automation risks, noting that the country has a high per capita usage of AI tools. Similarly, in Catamarca, Argentina, a bill has been introduced to integrate generative AI and machine learning into the provincial school system as a complementary tool for teachers and students.
In Mexico, Duolingo has partnered with the government to provide free English language licenses to 25,000 students enrolled in AI, cybersecurity, and software development programs to ensure language skills do not become a barrier to tech careers.
In San Juan, Argentina, legislators are discussing new penalties, including fines of up to 1.2 million pesos, to address the malicious use of AI for creating non-consensual sexual imagery and cyberbullying.
