Jujuy Opens Huellas de Maimará Geological and Paleontological Center

On July 29, the province of Jujuy inaugurated the Huellas de Maimará Geological and Paleontological Interpretation Center in the town of Maimará. The ceremony was led by Governor Carlos Sadir, accompanied by Minister of Culture and Tourism Federico Posadas and local mayor Susana Prieto, together with researchers and scientific representatives.

The center, housed in the Solar Train Station facilities, showcases key regional prehistoric finds—including a hadrosaur skeleton, a juvenile titanosaur, an abelisaur egg, tactile stromatolites and the celebrated dinosaur footprint discovered in 2002. It offers interactive, self‑guided tours for visitors and school groups.

Authorities framed the project as part of a broader strategy to boost tourism along the Quebrada de Humahuaca, linking the new attraction with existing sites such as the municipal market, the solar train line and the local wine route. The municipal government also announced work on an ordinance to protect the fossil footprints and other geological heritage.
