Jujuy ranks among Argentina's top provinces for child health indicators

Jujuy has been identified as one of the four Argentine provinces with the best child health indicators, according to UNICEF’s “Crecer en Argentina: Panorama provincial de la infancia” report. With an index of 0.669, the province stands above the national average of 0.630. Jujuy joins Neuquén, Tierra del Fuego, and Chubut in leading the country in dimensions such as vaccination coverage, low birth weight prevention, and reduced infant mortality from avoidable causes.

In response to these findings, the Jujuy Ministry of Health and UNICEF Argentina held a working meeting to establish a joint cooperation agenda for the 2026-2027 period. Health Minister José Manzur and UNICEF Deputy Representative María Elena Úbeda Castillo discussed strengthening public health pillars, including perinatal health, early childhood development, school health, nutrition, and adolescent mental health.

Provincial authorities attributed the positive indicators to sustained efforts in prenatal care, primary health attention, and sanitary infrastructure. Future cooperation will focus on key areas such as the “Mil Días” (First Thousand Days) program, safe childbirth, and suicide prevention.
