Jujuy retirees request legislative commission for elderly affairs
Representatives from various retiree and pensioner organizations in Jujuy, Argentina, have formally requested the creation of a “Commission of Older Adults” within the provincial legislature. The group aims to establish a dedicated parliamentary body to address the specific needs of more than 98,000 seniors in the province.
Spokesperson Juan Carlos Mamaní stated that while a Social Affairs Commission exists, it covers a broad range of topics including children, people with disabilities, and families. He argued that a specialized commission is necessary to address what he described as emergencies in health, food security, social welfare, and housing. The group also intends to review and update existing provincial laws to better suit the current economic and social context of the elderly population.
