Julia Becker to patronize HanseMerkur Prize for Child Protection

Julia Becker, chairperson of the supervisory board and co-shareholder of FUNKE Mediengruppe, will become the patron for the 45th HanseMerkur Prize for Child Protection in 2026. The award, which carries a total prize fund of 120,000 euros, will be presented in Hamburg on October 6.

Since 1980, the prize has honored individuals, initiatives, and organizations that work—primarily on a voluntary basis—to support children and young people. Supported projects include efforts in violence prevention, inclusion, education, health, and combating online bullying. Becker noted that a strong, independent public sphere is essential for effective child protection.
