Julia Curlee details dismissal from CIA under Trump administration

Former CIA officer Julia Curlee has spoken out regarding her dismissal during the Trump administration. Curlee, a transgender woman and lesbian, stated she was fired shortly after right-wing influencer Laura Loomer publicly targeted her identity.

Curlee detailed a contradictory situation where, despite being terminated on a Saturday, she was asked to return to work the following Monday. She explained that the administration still required her expertise to manage critical budget items and navigate significant staff turnover during the transition.

In an essay for The Atlantic, Curlee described her experience working across four administrations and briefing officials, including former Vice President Mike Pence. She recounted how the administration implemented policies that stripped her of access to correct bathrooms in federal buildings, removed insurance coverage for gender-affirming care, and altered her passport gender. She also noted her role in managing the aftermath of a purge involving 160 National Security Council staff members.
