Gruffalo Granny breaks sales records in UK debut

The new children's book ‘Gruffalo Granny’, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, has achieved significant commercial success. In the United Kingdom, the title sold 227,169 copies within its first three days, making it the fastest-selling picture book in Pan Macmillan's publishing history and marking the creators' first joint number one in the British overall charts.

This release marks the first new story in the beloved series since ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ in 2004. The original series has sold over 18 million copies and has been translated into more than 100 languages. The new volume is also expanding into international markets, including a German release via Beltz & Gelberg.

Author Julia Donaldson noted that the decision to write a sequel was inspired by the work of the National Literacy Trust, which uses the series in its ‘Early Words Matter’ program. The characters will also be involved in various charitable activities supported by the Trust.
