Julia Grogan stars in ‘You’re So Special’ at Soho Theatre

Julia Grogan’s one-woman play, ‘You’re So Special’, currently performing at London’s Soho Theatre, explores the manic obsession with fame through the character of Miss June. Directed by Rachel Lemon, the production follows a baby ballet teacher who believes she is on the verge of a major career breakthrough.

The narrative shifts between Miss June’s delusions of stardom and the reality of her life teaching toddlers in a village hall. After a perceived big break turns out to be merely ‘pencilled’ in, she is forced to return to her teaching role, leading to a comedic yet tragic portrayal of a performer desperate for validation. The play uses satire to examine the gap between perceived greatness and the mundane reality of her existence.
