Julia Holter announces companion album Materia

American artist Julia Holter is releasing a new album titled ‘Materia’ in 2026 via Domino Recording Co. The project serves as a companion or sequel to her 2024 album, ‘Something in the Room She Moves’.

Inspired by the melodies and modal chords of Hildegard von Bingen, the seven-track LP explores different iterations of the song ‘Materia’. The album includes ‘Materia 2’, a version featuring drum machines, fretless bass, clarinet, and vocals from Jessika Kenney, and ‘Materia 3’, which is a slowed-down version of the original track intended as a homage to the CD era.

The release is described as a spiritual and experimental exploration of texture and harmony, moving beyond the original arrangements to reimagine the connection between spirit and body.
