Julia Holter releases Materia ambient-pop album

Los Angeles-based musician Julia Holter has released Materia, a seven-song album that serves as a companion piece to her 2024 work, Something in the Room that Moves Her. The album features a blend of new material and reimagined versions of previously recorded songs.

The project is described as a celestial ambient-pop odyssey that merges modern sounds with classical influences. The tracklist includes “The Laugh Is in the Eyes,” characterized by asymmetrical melodies and electrified percussion, and the album highlight “My Lost One,” which features music-box-style piano. The title track is presented as two distinct compositions, “Materia 2” and “Materia 3,” which have been revitalized and transformed from earlier versions.
