Julia Jacklin releases fourth studio album ‘The Gem’

Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has released her fourth solo studio album, titled ‘The Gem’, through the label 4AD. The record marks a departure from her previous recording processes, as Jacklin intentionally took more time between projects to break the typical industry cycle of constant touring and recording.

The album was recorded in a studio in Melbourne located above a pub that inspired the title. This unique setting presented specific challenges, including managing exterior noise from foot traffic and music from the venue below. Thematically, the work explores the tensions between the desire for love and the desire for personal freedom.

Jacklin’s new sound continues her exploration of indie-folk with country influences, featuring her signature vocals and a band composed of collaborators and friends.
