Julia Jacklin releases new album ‘The Gem’
Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has released her fourth studio album, titled ‘The Gem’. This project marks a significant shift in her career, as it is her first release with the indie label 4AD and her first produced without the pressure of a strict time constraint.
Unlike her previous albums, which were often recorded quickly in North American cities, ‘The Gem’ was developed through a year-long, slow-burn production process at the Rat Shack, a recording studio located above a bar in Melbourne. Jacklin noted that the unconventional environment, surrounded by the daily activities of a pub, tattoo studio, and hairdresser, helped her embrace a more organic and less controlled creative process.
The album reflects a personal evolution for Jacklin, moving away from a desire for professional calculation toward an acceptance of creative chaos and intuition. The record is characterized by intimate lyricism and melodies that explore themes of change and the liberation found in breaking old patterns.
