Julia Jacklin releases new single ‘The Hardest Thing’

Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has released ‘The Hardest Thing’, the third single from her upcoming fourth solo album, ‘The Gem’. The album is scheduled for release on September 25 through the label 4AD.

The new track is accompanied by a music video directed by Danny Cohen, which was filmed entirely from a helicopter flying over the Melbourne skyline. The song and the broader album explore themes of personal transformation and the tension between the desire for love and the need for individual freedom.

Jacklin developed the album over the course of a year in Melbourne, following a move from Sydney. The record’s title is inspired by a local pub that served as a central location during her transition. The project was produced by Jacklin alongside Robert Muinos.
