Julia Scheib crashes during giant slalom season opener in Sölden
Austrian alpine skier Julia Scheib suffered a heavy crash during the giant slalom season opener in Sölden. The 28-year-old, who won the giant slalom crystal globe last season, was performing strongly and held a significant lead over Alice Robinson at the second intermediate time before losing control approximately 30 seconds into her run.
Following the spectacular fall, Scheib was checked by medical staff. In an interview with ORF, she provided initial reassurance, stating that preliminary checks were positive and she did not believe she had suffered a major injury. She noted that having previously torn her cruciate ligament twice, she could rule out a similar occurrence, though she admitted to feeling sensation in her knee.
The event was won by American Paula Moltzan, while Mikaela Shiffrin finished seventh.
