Juliaca authorities seize counterfeit and expired medicines

Authorities in Juliaca, Peru, conducted a joint operation in the Tambopata urbanization area to intercept pharmaceutical establishments with severe sanitary irregularities. The intervention, involving the Crime Prevention Prosecutor's Office, the National Police of Peru, and the Regional Directorate of Medicines, Supplies, and Drugs (DIREMID) of DIRESA Puno, targeted facilities lacking valid sanitary authorization or responsible technical directors.

During the inspection, officials discovered medicines that were allegedly counterfeit, lacked sanitary registration, were expired, or were of unknown origin. Many products were also found stored under inadequate conditions. Authorities have urged the public to purchase medications only from formal pharmacies and to verify sanitary registrations and expiration dates to avoid health risks.
