Juliaca municipal worker killed in dump truck hit-and-run
Nancy Tito Quiza, a 42-year-old municipal cleaning worker for the Provincial Municipality of San Román, died after being struck by a dump truck in Juliaca on August 25, 2026. The incident occurred near the Arequipa exit while Quiza was assisting a colleague with a mechanical issue on a work motorcycle.
Following the collision, the driver of the Volvo NL12 truck attempted to flee the scene. Local security personnel (Serenazgo) pursued the vehicle and successfully intercepted it in the San Julián urbanization. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Patricio Apaza Quispe, was detained and handed over to the National Police and the Public Ministry.
Quiza, a single mother, leaves behind two young daughters. The municipality confirmed it will activate her voluntary life insurance, which is estimated to provide between 70,000 and 80,000 soles. Authorities are currently conducting investigations, including alcohol testing of the driver, to determine criminal responsibility.
