Juliaca: Newborn involved in neglect and medical negligence allegations
A series of incidents involving a newborn in Juliaca has drawn local attention, involving both allegations of parental neglect and medical malpractice.
Municipal workers in Juliaca reported finding a 25-year-old woman, appearing to be in a state of intoxication, sleeping on the street near the San Isidro Stadium with her six-month-old baby. The infant was found with wet clothing. Local security personnel (Serenazgo) intervened to warm the child and contacted the mother's sister to ensure the baby was placed under family care.
Separately, the family of a newborn is protesting outside the Nacer private clinic in Juliaca, alleging medical negligence. They claim the infant, born via cesarean section on September 6, suffered respiratory complications after aspirating amniotic fluid and blood. The family reported that a power outage occurred during the first night, during which staff allegedly requested an extension cord to keep the incubator running. The infant is currently in intensive care in Arequipa, with the family reporting medical expenses exceeding S/ 80,000.
