Julian Alaphilippe announces retirement from professional cycling

French professional cyclist Julian Alaphilippe has announced his retirement from professional cycling, effective after the 2026 Tour de France. The 34-year-old double world champion decided not to complete his contract with the Tudor team, which was originally set to run through the end of the 2027 season.

A primary driver for the decision is the desire to spend more time with his family. His partner, Marion Rousse, a former cyclist and current consultant for France Télévisions, noted that Alaphilippe’s professional obligations previously required him to be away from home for more than 200 days per year.

The retirement is expected to significantly alter the daily life of the family, allowing Alaphilippe to be more present for his son, Nino, born in June 2021. Alaphilippe had previously expressed regret regarding his inability to be sufficiently present during his son's early years due to the intense travel and training schedules required by elite cycling.
