Julian Lewis homecoming looms as Colorado faces Georgia Tech

As the Colorado Buffaloes prepare for their 2026 season opener against Georgia Tech, reports have surfaced regarding quarterback Julian Lewis's potential interest in transferring to the Yellow Jackets. In early January, representatives for Lewis reportedly inquired about him replacing Haynes King at Georgia Tech via back channels. While Lewis never officially entered the transfer portal, the interest stemmed from uncertainty following coaching changes at Colorado.

Ultimately, Lewis remained with the Buffaloes under coach Deion Sanders. Georgia Tech instead secured Alberto Mendoza through the transfer portal. The upcoming matchup serves as a homecoming for Lewis, a Georgia native who played high school football near Atlanta.

Colorado linebacker Gideon Lampron noted that facing Georgia Tech’s run-heavy offense feels “definitely personal,” viewing the challenge as a test of toughness. Colorado enters the game as a 6.5-point underdog according to sportsbook odds.
