Julian Nagelsmann steps down as Germany's national team coach
Julian Nagelsmann, 38, announced his resignation as head coach of the German national football team less than a week after a loss to Paraguay on 4 July 2026. The decision ends a tenure that began on 15 September 2023, when he succeeded Hansi Flick after the latter was dismissed.
During his spell, Nagelsmann guided Germany in 37 matches, achieving a points‑per‑game ratio of 2.03, ranking sixth among the twelve DFB coaches in history. His previous club successes include winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 2022 and securing two German Super Cups (2021, 2022). He also led Hoffenheim from relegation danger to the Champions League and took RB Leipzig to a Champions League semi‑final.
While the exact financial terms of his departure were not disclosed, reports suggest his annual salary with the DFB was around €7 million and that he will likely receive compensation for the early termination of his contract.
