German football faces backlash over coach Nagelsmann's family bike photos

After Germany’s disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup, photographs of national team coach Julian Nagelsmann riding a bicycle with his wife Lena drew criticism from fans. Former player and DFB sport director Rudi Völler addressed the controversy, calling the images “unfortunate” ("Das war unglücklich"). He emphasized that family visits had not been excessive, noting that only partners and children had stayed at the camp, similar to the 2024 European Championship.

Völler also confirmed he will remain sport director, while speculation grows about a possible replacement of Nagelsmann by former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. Former captain Lothar Matthäus joined the criticism, suggesting that the presence of families could be a distraction from on‑field matters. The debate highlights broader scrutiny of the DFB’s management and camp policies following the tournament loss.
