Julian Savea appointed head coach of New Zealand's Mahurangi Rugby Club

Former All Blacks winger Julian Savea, 35, has been named head coach of Mahurangi Rugby Club, a premier side in North Harbour, New Zealand. The appointment, confirmed for after the NPC season ends in October, came through a connection with former Moana Pasifika team manager Peter White, who introduced Savea to club chairperson Patrick Sullivan. Savea, who is currently playing NPC rugby for the Wellington Lions and has been limited by injury this season, said coaching has long been his ambition: “I’m just stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ve always wanted to be a coach.” White will also serve as team manager, bringing his extensive experience with the All Blacks and Moana Pasifika.
