Julian Weber wins sixth German javelin title as Karl Bebendorf triumphs despite fall

At the German Athletics Championships in Bochum on 25 July 2026, Julian Weber secured his sixth consecutive national javelin title, throwing 82.60 m on his fourth attempt. The victory ties him with legend Klaus Wolfermann. Nick Thumm finished second with 81.45 m and former Olympic champion Thomas Röhler placed fourth with 79.12 m.

In the 3000 m steeplechase, Dresden’s Karl Bebendorf fell four laps from the end but quickly remounted, completed the race in 8:21.01 and claimed his seventh title. He said, “I got up quickly, and then there was only one direction.” About 14,000 spectators watched the finish.

Long‑jump champion Simon Batz improved his personal best to 8.29 m, commenting, “Unbelievable, to jump that at the German Championships.”
