Juliana Brizola concedes Rio Grande do Sul gubernatorial election
Juliana Brizola, the left-wing candidate for governor of Rio Grande do Sul, has conceded defeat following the recent elections. In a speech acknowledging the rise of the far-right in Brazil and specifically in the southern region, Brizola emphasized the importance of the unity achieved by her coalition, noting that they secured two million votes.
Brizola stated her intention to remain in resistance and focus on supporting the candidacy of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. She expressed a desire not to obstruct the state's governance due to political differences but remained critical of the direction of the incoming administration. Her running mate, Edegar Pretto, also called for continued struggle to defend Lula's presidency and reverse political trends in both Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil.
