Black leaders advance in U.S. Senate bids and NASCAR sponsorship

Several developments highlight increasing Black representation in American politics and business. In Illinois, Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton has secured the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate. If successful, her election could result in three or four Black women serving in the Senate simultaneously.

In Mississippi, prosecutor Scott Colom is running as a Democrat to challenge Republican incumbent Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. His campaign focuses on economic pressures and inflation in the historically conservative state.

In the sports and business sectors, the Black-owned grooming brand Wave Enforcer has announced a sponsorship of rising NASCAR driver Rajah Caruth to increase brand visibility.
