Julie Andrews declines role in The Princess Diaries 3
Julie Andrews has confirmed she will not return as Queen Clarisse Renaldi for the upcoming Disney sequel, ‘The Princess Diaries 3’. The 90-year-old actress stated that she has effectively retired from on-screen acting, though she continues to work in voiceover, writing, and podcasting.
In interviews with InStyle and TODAY, Andrews explained that while the creative team approached her last year, she felt the new story should focus on Mia Thermopolis. She noted, “It’s her story. It’s not really mine,” suggesting the franchise can flourish without her character.
Anne Hathaway is confirmed to reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis. The production has faced several developments, including a script rewrite to find a new creative direction and potential delays due to Hathaway’s pregnancy. Adele Lim is set to direct the film.
