Julie Andrews reflects on career milestones and new projects

Julie Andrews, the veteran stage and screen icon, has shared insights into her career and personal experiences. During the filming of ‘The Sound of Music’ in 1964, Andrews was 28 years old. Despite her poised performance as Maria von Trapp, she had already established herself as a star through ‘Mary Poppins’ and had extensive professional experience from Broadway roles such as ‘My Fair Lady’.

Now 90, Andrews admitted to feeling nervous and “a bit shy” when starting new projects, noting that it can take a week or more to feel comfortable in new environments. Her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, also discussed the challenges of living with second-hand fame.

The mother-daughter duo is collaborating on a new children’s book titled ‘Shy’, scheduled for release on August 11. Additionally, they are involved in an upcoming Disney+ documentary about Andrews’ life and career, which is expected to arrive on the streaming platform in 2027.
