Julie Andrews retires from on-screen acting at age 90

Dame Julie Andrews has announced her retirement from on-screen acting at the age of 90. The Oscar and Golden Globe winner confirmed she will not return for a third 'The Princess Diaries' film, despite being approached by production teams over the past year. She noted that while it was difficult to decline, she feels she is “past” appearing on camera and believes the franchise will function well without her character.

While stepping away from physical film roles, Andrews is not retiring from all professional work. She intends to continue her involvement in voiceover work, podcasts, and writing books. Her recent voice work includes the role of Lady Whistledown in the Netflix series 'Bridgerton'.

Disney+ has announced a feature-length documentary about Andrews' life and career, scheduled to debut in 2027. The project will utilize previously unseen archival footage and new interviews to chronicle her journey from a British vaudeville performer to an international icon.
