Julien Alfred sets third‑fastest 200 m time at Monaco meet

Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred ran 21.51 seconds to win the women's 200 m at the Meeting Herculis in Monaco, becoming the third‑fastest woman ever over the distance behind Florence Griffith‑Joyner and Shericka Jackson. The performance broke the meeting record that had stood since 1993 (21.77 s) and was the world’s fastest time recorded for 2026.

Alfred finished ahead of Adaeajah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands (21.70 s) and Olympic 200 m champion Gabby Thomas of the United States (21.84 s). She said, “It’s not about the reaction time; it’s about how you finish. I don’t care about my reaction time; I was first, that’s all that matters,” adding that there are “no limits right now.”

The race took place at Stade Louis II in Monaco, and the achievement follows Alfred’s recent national record of 21.71 s set in London. Her time places her among the all‑time elite in the event.
