Julien’s Auctions to sell Sompote Sands’ sci-fi film collection
Julien’s Auctions has announced a major sci-fi auction event titled ‘Kaiju King: The Sompote Sands Legacy Collection.’ The auction is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, both live in Los Angeles and online.
The collection features over 300 original film artifacts and memorabilia from the estate of Sompote Sands, the founder of Chaiyo Productions and a visionary in the tokusatsu (special effects) genre. The sale commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Ultraman franchise.
Notable items include production suits, masks, miniatures, figurines, and 3-D paintings by designer Tohl Narita. The archive also contains historical treasures from the golden age of Japanese cinema, such as a 35mm camera used on the set of the 1962 film ‘King Kong vs. Godzilla,’ and hand-painted posters signed by legendary directors including Akira Kurosawa and Ishiro Honda.
