Julieta Castellanos warns of electoral risks in Honduras
Julieta Castellanos, former rector of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), has warned that deficiencies in the electoral system could lead to fraud and political instability. She specifically highlighted the failure of political parties to properly accredit members for polling station boards, a situation she claims could facilitate irregular negotiations and manipulation during voting processes.
Castellanos criticized the allocation of significant public resources to elections that lack citizen trust due to these systemic weaknesses. She noted that such deficiencies may contribute to prolonged political instability and ungovernability in the country.
As the National Congress prepares to establish technical committees to analyze six proposals for electoral reform, Castellanos urged the public to monitor the actions of deputies and denounce those opposing necessary democratic strengthening measures.
