Juliette Freire defends documentary regarding Flávio Bolsonaro

Singer and presenter Juliette Freire has defended the veracity of her documentary episode, ‘A Guerra à Santa’ (The War on the Saint), following accusations of falsehood from Flávio Bolsonaro.

The documentary investigates religious intolerance and specifically examines the connection between Flávio Bolsonaro and evangelical bishop JB Carvalho, founder of Comunidade das Nações. The production highlights Carvalho’s past statements in his 2001 book, where he described the Catholic patron saint, Nossa Senhora Aparecida, as a ‘braço direito de Satanás’ (right hand of Satan) and questioned her status as Brazil’s patron saint.

The documentary also questions why Flávio Bolsonaro chose Carvalho’s church for his baptism in January 2024. In response to the controversy, Flávio Bolsonaro called Juliette a ‘mentirosa’ (liar) during a live broadcast. Juliette has denied allegations that she received public funds to produce the content, stating that every detail in the video has been fact-checked.
