Julián Álvarez to remain at Atlético de Madrid after Barcelona transfer bid fails

Julián Álvarez will remain at Atlético de Madrid following failed negotiations with FC Barcelona. Despite Barcelona presenting an offer exceeding 100 million euros, structured in six payments, Atlético de Madrid refused to sell the Argentine striker.

Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, confirmed that the club has moved on from the pursuit, stating, “Julián is the past, we have to look forward.” The club sought a mobile forward to eventually succeed Robert Lewandowski, but the high 500 million euro release clause and Atlético's firm stance made the deal impossible.

As an alternative, Barcelona has secured the signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, who fits the profile the club was seeking. Meanwhile, Álvarez remains under contract with Atlético de Madrid until June 2030.
