Julián Álvarez turns down Atlético renewal, sparking Barcelona interest
Argentina’s World Cup‑winning striker Julián Álvarez rejected a contract extension proposed by Atlético Madrid, reportedly a net €10 million per season that would have kept him at the club until 2030. Atlético indicated it would seek roughly €150 million to release him, and coach Diego Simeone said he would not block any future move.
Barcelona emerged as the primary suitor, with the Catalan club viewing Álvarez as a long‑term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Paris Saint‑Germain and some English clubs are also monitoring the situation. After the domestic season, Álvarez will join the Argentina national team while his club future is decided.
