Merengue artist Gilberto Julián Sarante Perdomo, known as Julián Oro Duro, and his wife, Zeneida Socorro Castillo, were victims of a violent attack at their residence in the Brisa Oriental VI sector of Santo Domingo Este during the early hours of Monday.

Zeneida Socorro Castillo, 60, died at the scene from craniofacial trauma and a sharp-penetrating wound to her neck. Preliminary investigations suggest she was attacked before her husband returned home around 1:00 AM. Upon his arrival, Sarante Perdomo was confronted by assailants, sustaining multiple facial fractures and an intracranial hemorrhage. He is currently in stable condition and under medical observation at the Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud.

The attackers reportedly stole cash, jewelry, and a cell phone. While the primary hypothesis is a home invasion and robbery, the artist's lawyer, Cándido Simó, has suggested the act may have been premeditated, noting that the suspects appeared to have been inside the home for several hours.

President Luis Abinader has condemned the act as an unqualifiable crime and urged the perpetrators to surrender. The National Police, the Public Ministry, and the Scientific Police are conducting a joint investigation, including the analysis of security footage and forensic evidence, to identify and locate those responsible.
