Julio Alak accused of suspending City Bell communal board for a year

The neighbourhood association DNI City Bell released an open letter accusing La Plata mayor Julio Alak of halting the City Bell Junta Comunal for twelve months. The board, created by the municipal government on 27 May 2025 and reconvened on 24 July 2025, was intended to involve residents in decisions on health, safety, education, urban planning, environment and public trees. After the July meeting, the association says no further convocations or information were provided, effectively freezing the participatory forum.

The letter also criticises the municipal handling of major urban‑planning measures, including the rapid adoption of the Código de Ordenamiento Urbano y Territorial with only a 15‑day comment period, and the execution of plaza renovations and the Parque Saavedra project without adequate community consultation. While the mayor had announced extensive street works, curb‑side improvements and new lighting, the association argues that the promised dialogue mechanism was abandoned, undermining transparency and citizen involvement.
