Julio Casares misused São Paulo FC corporate card

Former São Paulo Football Club president Julio Casares spent roughly R$1 million on a corporate credit card between 2021 and 2025, covering luxury cigars, high‑end stores, upscale restaurants, medical expenses and a beauty salon. He refunded R$560,401.74 in November 2025 after the club’s administration was alerted to the spending.

Casares was impeached and resigned in early 2026. A joint task‑force of the Public Ministry and the Civil Police is investigating him for qualified theft and money‑laundering, alleging he may have misappropriated about R$11 million from the club’s treasury. He also faces an internal disciplinary proceeding that could lead to his expulsion from the club’s associate ranks.

According to his attorney Bruno Borragine, the lack of clear rules on corporate‑card use until December 2025 meant the expenditures were personal, though the club later approved a compliance norm proposed by Casares. The lawyer added that the remaining amounts represent routine operational expenses recorded by the club’s finance department.
