Julio Casares sues Meta over Instagram follower loss

Julio Casares, the former president of São Paulo FC, has filed a lawsuit against Meta seeking R$ 10,000 in moral damages. The legal action follows a five-month period during which his Instagram account was deactivated due to what his defense describes as coordinated and false reports.

Casares claims the suspension resulted in a significant loss of digital presence, with his follower count dropping from 600,000 to 562,000. His legal team argues that this loss constitutes concrete damage to his professional reach and reputational assets built organically over a decade. The defense also highlighted the lack of adequate human support from Meta, noting that the automated assistance provided was insufficient, particularly given Casares' status as a senior citizen.

Casares regained access to his account only after obtaining a court injunction. This legal dispute occurs as the former executive faces other investigations related to his resignation from São Paulo FC in January, following allegations of irregularities regarding ticket sales for events at the Morumbi stadium.
