Julio César Chávez addresses addiction prevention in Puebla
Former Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez delivered a keynote lecture titled ‘Creando Campeones de Vida’ (Creating Champions of Life) to more than 4,200 students in Puebla. Organized by the State Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), the event aimed to prevent addiction and promote healthy decision-making among secondary, high school, and university students.
Chávez shared personal accounts of his professional boxing career alongside his struggles with substance abuse. He noted that achieving professional success and financial wealth did not protect him from personal crises. He specifically mentioned that his struggles began following a fight against Héctor ‘Macho’ Camacho, eventually impacting his athletic performance, finances, and personal relationships.
The former world champion emphasized the importance of discipline, perseverance, and hard work in achieving goals. He encouraged youth to pursue their dreams while warning that drug experimentation carries consequences far beyond a momentary decision.
