Julio César Chávez addresses family legal issues and new documentary

Former Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez is addressing personal and family challenges ahead of the September 11 release of the five-part documentary ‘Chávez vs Chávez’ on the ViX platform. Directed by Diego Enrique Osorno, the series explores the boxer's career and personal struggles.

Chávez defended his son, Julio César Chávez Jr., against allegations of involvement with organized crime. Despite his son being extradited from the United States to Mexico in August 2025 on charges related to organized crime and weapons trafficking, the elder Chávez denied any links to drug cartels, stating that his son has always been a boxer.

Chávez also spoke about the impact of drug and alcohol addiction on his family, noting that his sons followed his professional footsteps but also struggled with the same substance abuse issues that affected his own career. He expressed hope that upcoming fights by his sons, Julio César and Omar Chávez, in Puebla on September 12 will refocus public attention on boxing.
